The creation of Mod Man used techniques consisting of hand building and cold working. Each box was built and fired to Δ 04 and then machined using glass cold working equipment. The result created sharp lines and smooth surfaces which begged to be touched and rearranged into different configurations.

Battuto Mugs Battuto Mugs

Battuto is an Italian cold working technique where a grinding wheel is used to create irregular shaped marks over a glass surface. I have adapted this technique to ceramic allowing for a post firing method of surface treatment. The Oculus Facade is a rough model of how a tessellating ceramic panel could become an architectural facade. There are four different modules, designed in Rhinoceros, each with a different sized opening. All modules have a convex side and concave side producing an undulating effect.
